Cardinal Newman School has held accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) since 1958.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools merged with the North Central Association (NCA) CASI and with the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE). These three organizations are under the parent organization of AdvancED. This unified organization represents 23,000 public and private schools and districts in 30 states and 65 countries, serving close to 15 million students.

Accreditation by SACS/AdvancEd involves three major components:
  • Meeting standards;
  • Engaging in continuous improvement; and
  • Providing for quality assurance.
In the Fall of 2010, our Bishop, Most Rev. Robert E. Guglielmone, announced that ALL parish and diocesan-sponsored Catholic schools in the Diocese of Charleston would apply for AdvancEd Diocesan-wide Accreditation.  This accreditation accepted Cardinal Newman School's previous SACS Accreditation and continues it.
The External Team Quality Assurance Review for diocesan-wide accreditation took place in April of 2012.  It was preceded by a self-study that involved members of our entire school community.  Then in May of 2012, the Catholic Schools Office for the Diocese of Charleston received confirmation that our Diocese was awarded AdvancEd diocesan-wide accreditation.  Over the time period of 2013 - 2016, each school in the Diocese hosted an internal review team that validated each school's progress before starting the process for re-accreditation.  Cardinal Newman's visit took place in May of 2016.

The next diocesan-wide External Team Quality Assurance Review will take place on April 2 through April 5, 2017.
