Mr. Micheal Littlejohn spoke with students on Friday, Feb 14th at our third "Lunch and Learn" speaker series, as we celebrate Black History Month. Mr. Littlejohn, a Cardinal Newman graduate from the class of 2008 and an attorney with his own law practice in Charlotte, returned to Cardinal Newman to deliver a talk on “Faith, Law, and Community” to a packed house.
Second "Lunch and Learn" Speaker Mrs. Brionna Zimmerman Offers Inspiring Message
Mrs. Brionna Dickerson Zimmerman spoke with students on Wednesday, Feb 12th at our second "Lunch and Learn" series as we celebrate Black History Month. Mrs. Zimmerman as she shared her presentation on “Business and Basketball: My Life as a Division 1 Athlete and Scholar.” Ms. Kennedy Bracey, a senior leader of the Student Diversity Team, introduced Mrs. Zimmerman and shared a brief biography with the audience.
Faculty Member Dr. Alvoy Bryan Kicks Off "Lunch and Learn" Series as We Celebrate Black History Month.
Our first speaker Dr. Bryan, a classically trained violinist, violist, conductor, arranger, composer, audio engineer, and business owner, joined the Cardinal Newman faculty this year. Bryan shared a rich historical overview on the origin of Black History month and then shared information on three classically-trained musicians of African descent that had major impact in Europe and the United States. Bryan then shared his own educational path to earning a Doctor of Music Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and going on to perform both in the United States, Europe and South America. Students then had the opportunity to ask questions.
Now Offering Music Scholarships for Incoming Students!
The Cardinal Newman Department of Music is offering scholarships for newly enrolled music students in grades 8-10 for the 2020-2021 school year. Scholarships are awarded based on music ability and require that the student is a leader in one of our ensembles. Scholarship awards are based on the student essay and audition with the Department of Music faculty.

Ashlyn Watkins Joins the Ranks of the 1000 Point Club!

Ashlyn Watkins Joins the Ranks of the 1000 Point Club! Ashlyn achieved this milestone on January 21, 2020 against White Knoll. This season Ashlyn is averaging 16.3 points per game, 12.0 rebound points per game, and 3.9 blocks per game as a sophomore. Congratulations to Ashlyn on achieving her 1000th career point!
